Shastri Research Student Fellowship 2023-2024: Shastri Research Student Fellowship (SRSF) is an initiative of the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute, a binational non-profit organization that supports funding for Education and research. The fellowship program is applicable to undergraduate, masters, M.Phil and even doctoral and postdoctoral students in recognized Canadian and Indian universities.

Shastri Research Student Fellowship Overview
Shastri Research Student Fellowship is applicable for all fields of study ranging from humanities and social sciences to arts, commerce and management. However, applications will come from the focus areas of the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute and priority areas of the Ministry of Human Resource Management such as water resources management, food security, agricultural science and technology, gender, bilateral trade and investment, environmental science and energy. Should be given priority.
Currently, there are three types of Shastri Research Student Fellowships, each awarded to different groups of individuals.
- Shastri Research Scholar Fellowship for Doctoral Students.
- Shastri Research Student Fellowship for Postdoctoral Students.
- Shastri Indo Canadian Fellowship.
Shastri Research Scholar Fellowship for Doctoral Students
Shastri Research Student Fellowship for Doctoral Students, as the name suggests, is offered primarily to candidates enrolled in doctoral programs in Canada or India. The fellowship provides necessary assistance to the candidates in the form of financial assistance.
eligibility criteria
Candidates will be considered eligible for fellowship if the following criteria are fulfilled
- Doctoral candidates who have secured admission/registration for a full-time PhD program in a recognized Indian or Canadian university.
- The candidate’s summary must be approved by the competent authority before the last date of fellowship application.
- The candidate’s institute or university must be a member of SICI. The complete list of SICI member institutions can be found here,
- Candidate must have oral and written proficiency in English.
- The age limit for the candidates is between 21-35 years.

The application process and requirements for the fellowship are as follows:
- Visit the official website of SICI and register a new account https://www.sicigms.org/login
- Fill the application form completely and attach all the required documents first 30 September 2023,
- The candidate must obtain ‘Supervisor Authorisation’ from his/her research guide or supervisor before starting the application process.
- The candidate must also provide two reference letters, one of which must be from the Head of Department or thesis supervisor.
- Candidates must obtain invitation or affiliation letter from the host institution. The host must also be a member institution of SICI.
- Candidates must attach certificate of ethical approval (if applicable)
- passport copy
- If the candidate is employed, the endorsement of the employer is required.
Comment: In the reference letter, candidates must request their thesis supervisor to approve the summary of their thesis and also state the stage of the research. Research which is in the final stages of submission will be rejected.

- The duration of the fellowship is up to 4 months.
Shastri Research Student Fellowship for Postdoctoral Students
Shastri Research Student Fellowship for Postdoctoral Students enables candidates who have been awarded a PhD degree to pursue further research in Canada or India. The candidate is required to apply for the fellowship within five years of obtaining the PhD degree. Furthermore, candidates are not required to hold an academic post to apply.

Candidates are considered eligible for fellowship if the following criteria are met:
- Candidates who are currently working as Postdoctoral Fellows in any of the SICI member institutions are eligible to apply.
- Candidates must have a doctoral degree awarded by a Canadian or Indian institution.
- Candidates are required to apply within five years of obtaining their doctoral degree.
- Candidate must have oral and written proficiency in English.
- The age limit for the candidates is between 30-45 years.

- Complete the application form and attach all required documents December 2023.
- Also, candidates must submit proof of their post-doctoral degree or their post-doctoral fellowship must be approved when submitting the application.
- Candidates must obtain invitation or affiliation letter from the host institution. The host must also be a member institution of SICI.
- The candidate must also provide two reference letters in respect of his/her candidature.
- If the candidate is employed, the endorsement of the employer is required.
- Candidates must attach certificate of ethical approval (if applicable)

Shastri Research Student Fellowship for Canadian Students
This fellowship is for Canadian students who wish to pursue a course or internship in Indian universities, provided it falls within the scope of SICI. List of member universities is available, Click here,
eligibility criteria
Candidates are considered eligible for fellowship if the following criteria are met:
- Candidates must be from any recognized Canadian university that falls under the scope of SICI.
- Candidates must have obtained at least 65% marks.
- Candidates should be above 18 years of age at the time of application.
- Candidates must not simultaneously study or enroll for any other degree IT Diploma.
- Candidates who are enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree and have completed six months or one semester from Canadian universities and have one to three semesters remaining in their program are eligible to apply for the fellowship.
- Candidate must have oral and written proficiency in English.
- The age limit for the candidates is between 21-25 years.

- Candidates must obtain No Objection Certificate from their current university or institute.
- Candidates must obtain invitation or affiliation letter from the host institution. The host must also be a member institution of SICI.
- The candidate must also provide two reference letters in respect of his/her candidature.
- Candidates must attach certificate of ethical approval (if applicable)

- Copies of transcripts from university for all years studied.
- Education Certificate (from Senior Secondary)
- Incomplete application forms will be rejected.

Candidates can fill the application form with all required documents on GMS portal on or before 30 September 2023Till 5:00 PM (IST).
Shastri Research Student Fellowship Package
The fellowship package will include the following benefits:

Shastri Research Student Fund Disbursement
- The funds will be distributed in two equal installments.
- The first installment will be released upon signing of the MoU between the host institution and SICI
- The second installment will be released upon submission of mid-term progress.
- The remaining 10% will be released upon submission and approval of the final report to SICI.
