Yes, I agree with that. It is the parents who are responsible for inculcating a good sense of dental hygiene in their children. Children are children. They cannot be expected to live like adults who know what is good or bad for them. Actually, children have limited knowledge. They don’t know what is or will be good or bad for them. Since sweets are tasty, they keep eating them in large quantities.
But they don’t know how harmful it will be for their teeth. It is like eating fried food with cold drinks which makes them obese. If this continues, obesity becomes the mother of many diseases. So parents should teach their children, in fact, alert them to the consequences of eating too many sweets. These will definitely damage their teeth. They will go through the pain of getting fillings in their mouth and the groaning process at the dentist. It is quite possible that one day they may wear dentures.

- These lines show that the narrator kept brushing her teeth up and down and checking them. But he never stopped eating different types of sweets. She did not think it appropriate to check all this because she could still bite. He thought his teeth were fine but they were rotten and in the process of decaying.
- The poetess went to the dentist to get her teeth repaired and pierced. This could have been avoided if she had taken care of them and stopped eating sweets at the right time.
- That means when a new tooth comes, it becomes like a friend. Earlier, without teeth the mouth was ‘friendless’. Now it was not like that. This also means that the tooth was like a ‘friend’ because it was not affected by decay.
- We can take care of our teeth by avoiding all types of sweets. Then we can take care of them by brushing them properly on regular basis.

I am horrified to see Jack with diseased and decaying teeth. What beautiful and shiny teeth he had before! But now when he opens his mouth there is a sight of rotten and discolored teeth. I can’t get my teeth treated like Jack. I know that shining teeth add charm to our personality. Then with healthy teeth we are almost disease-free. I think bad breath is caused by rotting teeth. They invite hordes of germs of other associated diseases. Having good teeth allows me to laugh at people who listen to their terror while sitting in the dentist’s chair.
This terror is caused by the harsh sound of their drill. I am very conscious of eating good and healthy food and avoiding junk food. Then daily brushing of teeth and rinsing with liquids like Listerine has become my hobby. There is no doubt that shiny and sparkling teeth are a gift from God. These enhance the personality of a person. We should keep them healthy and in good condition. Keeping them nice and shiny is never difficult.
