(a) Here time is depicted as a man holding a flag in his hand. This somehow resembles the Lord Christ. This is portrayed because there is nothing more powerful than man, although before time man is non-existent. Secondly, time is portrayed as a human being because the poem is about him.

(c) The poet calls time dull because time spoils monuments made of marble or gold. It discolors, breaks or soils them through its own agencies. These agencies are air, rain, natural vegetation etc.

(d) These lines clearly highlight the quality of the poet. This is the immortality of his poetry and the permanence of his poetic or literary art. It is true that like time or nature, literary art is also permanent and immortal. That is why, we have poets and artists who have lived thousands of years ago and will live forever through their creations. He has become immortal through literature and art.
