Answer:
Bill (Lutkins himself) immediately knows that the lawyer is looking for him. The lawyer’s first sentence to him is: ‘I want to find a man named Oliver Lutkins.’

Question 2.
Latkins openly parades the lawyer throughout the village. How is it that no secret is allowed to be revealed?

,prompt: Note that the hack driver tells the lawyer to stay out of sight behind him when they go on the fritz.) Can you find other subtle ways that Latkins rigs the tour?

Answer:

Latkins works very cleverly. He gives hints wherever the lawyer takes him to find ‘Lutkins’. These are to keep everything secret. For example, Fritz sees the lawyer hiding behind the bill and ‘hesitates’. Then he lies.

Yes, he manages the tour smartly. When he goes to Gustaf’s barber shop, the first thing he does is enter the shop. But the lawyers remained outside. In fact, he talks to the lawyer with great confidence. His honesty and helpful nature impresses him a lot. But before that he makes a move.

Question 3.
Why do you think the Lutkins neighbors were eager to meet the lawyer? (CBSE 2011)

The best example of such a man is Mr. Natwarlal. After betraying many people, he went to jail.

Yes, I remember one such incident. A young man I know got his first paycheck. He was very excited. He wanted to give a small gift of gold to his mother. He had gone to the bullion market. Found a swindler. He told her that he could get her a real gold chain cheaply. The young man fell into his trap. He bought the chain. He turned out to be a fake.

A ‘con man’ is a trickster. He is a master at deceiving people just as Lutkins himself deceived the young lawyer.
