Clinton Fellowship 2023-24: Clinton Fellowship, awarded to the AIF William J. Also known as the Clinton Fellowship, is a program funded by the American India Foundation that provides young individuals the opportunity to pursue an extensive volunteer service program. Preference is given to individuals with a strong passion for social and economic development in India.

Clinton Fellowship Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must ensure that they fulfill the following criteria to be considered eligible for the fellowship:

  • Candidates must be Indian or US citizens.
  • Candidates must have completed their undergraduate or higher degree on or before September 1, 2024.
  • Candidates age should be between 21 to 34 years as on 1st September 2024.
  • Candidates should also have

    • Good professional skills and excellent academic record
    • Candidates must be sensitive and empathetic enough to work with vulnerable societies and communities.

Selected fellows are also eligible for two weeks leave

  • Applicable during the ten month fellowship
  • Fellows with Saturday working days will be eligible for 20 days leave.
  • Please note, approval from the host organization is also required.

Clinton Fellowship Responsibilities

Selected fellows will work with partner organizations of the American India Foundation. Responsibilities include meeting project and human resource requirements through skill building and sharing, training and capacity development.

Other responsibilities include program design and implementation, monitoring and evaluation, formulation of business plans and strategies, action research and communications.

As a part of the application process, candidates are required to write an essay on the following topics

    The answer should focus on the following points:

    • How does this experience fit into your larger professional and personal development?
    • Why do you specifically want to apply for the AIF Clinton Fellowship?
  • Share your philosophy of service (250 words)
    The answer should focus on the following points:
    • What does service mean to you?
    • Why do you want to serve?
    • What specific experiences have shaped your service philosophy?
    • What inspires you while serving people and communities?
  • Outline three (3) skills that you will apply when working with communities in development during this fellowship. (250 words)
    Please provide concrete examples of how you learned each of these skills. Who or what inspired you to learn these skills?
  • Tell us about a time when you had to navigate a new, unknown or unfamiliar environment. (250 words)
    The answer should focus on the following points:
    • What challenges did you face?
    • What did you do to deal with it?
    • What are some lessons you learned?
    • What areas remain that you will continue to struggle with?
  • Taking a broad view of development, please answer the following questions. In your response, please share and explain how you think these ideas will impact and shape your ten months of service. (350 words)
    The answer should focus on the following points:
    • Is progress inherent in development?
    • Some development initiatives are successful and some are not.
    • Why sometimes no concrete change or effect is seen even after the problem is identified?
    • In your experience and observations, does everyone have an equal voice in deciding what development means for their community and/or country?
  • Candidates must also declare any professional skills, language skills and personal details.
  • Candidates are also required to attach their Resume/CV – Please ensure that the file is attached in PDF format and the maximum size should not exceed 3 MB.
  • Candidates must also attach two references and their contact details. However, AIF strongly prefers three recommendations to better understand the capabilities of the applicant.
  • Preference for interview venue. (Either Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai or Chennai).

Comment: The system will generate an automated email to referrers with detailed instructions on how to record their responses. Recommendations are not accepted via direct email or mail.

Clinton Fellowship Selection Process and Selection Criteria

Selection Process

  • Initially, applications are screened and examined by AIF personnel and other stakeholders from India as well as the US.
  • Grades are given on the basis of a numerical scale and candidates who pass the criteria proceed to the next process – the interview.
  • Selected candidates will have to appear for Skype interview with AIF personnel.
  • Candidates who are successful in the Skype interview round will proceed for personal interview.
